Seasonal changes in recovery
Navigating seasonal celebrations such as Halloween and Christmas in sobriety can bring a whole mix of emotions, memories and challenges to the surface. While these occasions may be filled with joy for some, they can also trigger feelings of loneliness, grief, anxiety or nostalgia for the way things used to be. It’s important to remember that whatever feelings arise, they are valid, and we don’t have to escape or numb them. Give yourself permission to set boundaries, create new traditions, lean on your support network and put your recovery first. Sobriety doesn’t mean missing out on the magic of these seasons; it means learning to experience them authentically, one day at a time, with a newfound appreciation for life.
