Working with Disability

Because of Covid-19 and the restrictions that are in place and for those with mobility issues, Somewhere House Addiction Treatment Centre caters for all and works from a person-centered approach. I am a client with a disability, currently a client here. I am looking at hiring a scooter so I am able to get out and about with my peers. During this lockdown period, those who are disabled like me, may feel especially isolated and restricted. Somewhere House are supporting me to be able to join in and there is even a plan for me to be able to go to the farm and enjoy some fresh air, whilst still keeping myself safe. I am looking forward to seeing the horses and the dogs and maybe even doing some gardening. As someone with a diagnosed disability, I have often felt marginalised in society, so it has been a breath of fresh air coming in to Somewhre House and being included in everything! There is no judgment about what I can or cannot always do and being part of a family. Depending on the day can depend on what I am able to do and my peers look beyond this and support me wholeheartedly. Family values is one of the reasons I came here in the first place. I am able to engage in 121 therapy and group therapy and so far everything is going well.  This has and is one of the most difficult things I have ever done, but also one of the most rewarding. Do I wish that I was able to be freer? Yes, I do however  I also want to feel safe and even with the pandemic going on, that has not stopped the staff here from supporting me to think outside of the box. If I wasn't in treatment during Covid-19 pandemic, the reality is I would still be at home, isolated and using. I like the individuality of the programme, there is no one size fits all here!
