Music Group Therapy

Many people have a favourite song or songs, those of us in recovery will also more than likely have a song that signifies something important to us. We had group therapy focusing on just this today. Music is emotional and evokes feelings, is a way to express and unlock them. Clients at Somewhere House Addiction Treatment Centre were invited to share with their peers their 'recovery' song. This was collated into a playlist, played to the group and an opportunity to express this to their peers. With many new peers into treatment recently, it was lovely to see the group grow closer as a result and get to know each other through the medium of music. Staff chose theirs too! This is just one of the ways we work with a holistic approach to treatment. Rather like our treatment model, no clients chose the same song, which reinforces that we are all different and is why our model of treatment is set up to work individually with clients in a group therapy and one to one setting.
