There’s been a big focus this week at Somewhere House Addiction Treatment Centre on honesty.

Why is it so important in recovery? Well in short, secrets keep you sick, and you are as sick as your secrets. A life that is not transparent and congruent can trigger feelings of guilt and shame, which can themselves be huge triggers to relapse.

One of the key ‘suggested things’ we talk so much about at Somewhere House is keeping things simple. Dishonesty and lies are the opposite of that.

Being honest promotes happiness.

If you were to write a pro’s and con’s list for honesty vs dishonesty there wouldn’t be any comparison. A healthy recovery can only be sustained on the basis of honesty. Group therapy and individual counselling is one of the ways we help our clients to work through this process.
