Today at Somewhere House has been typically busy. Clients chose to do an art group today focusing on where they are at in their recovery and explore this using art materials. Making artwork is a great way to express what is really going on for a person and to connect to the feelings that are going on inside. Through addiction, emotions are often avoided and this is a gentle and therapeutic way to get in touch with and validate those long lost feelings.
The clients often choose to keep their artwork in their tool boxes and reflect on it later on, it can be a good tool when people leave treatment to remind clients of what they need to do in their recovery.
