Admissions
HOW TO JOIN THE PROGRAMME
If you are a potential referrer/care manager or individual please do not hesitate to contact us by phone, email or fax. We are willing to answer any questions you may have and arrange a visit if necessary. Call the office on 01278 795 236 or email info@somewherehouse.com
We will accept any referral for assessment, from any organisation or individual; we are an abstinence based program.
Our client group is from 18 through to 64, however we cannot accept couples. We only accept those on long term mood altering medication if these are prescribed by your medical team. We can accept one individual at a time over the age of 65.
We would prefer for the potential client to telephone and make an appointment for an assessment if possible or we will speak to care managers, family memebers. We would like all potential clients to have the opportunity to visit the home before admission. We encourage potential clients to attend group therapy and have lunch with the residents, this gives the individual insight into our premises, program and current resident’s experiences. We realise that this is not always an option and will treat every individual according to their needs; telephone assessments are an option.
After an assessment has been carried out we will give feedback immediately to the individual whether we can offer them a place at Somewhere House, providing all relevant information has been given to the assessor.
HOW MUCH DO WE CHARGE?
Our current charges are between £600and £900 per week; these prices are based on the individuals needs mainly in regards to the input required; this can be paid privately or by your referrer, providing agreement has been sought. To seek funding the norm is to first call is your G.P. who should be able to direct you to the appropriate services. These services are usually alcohol and drug teams which can be attached to your local mental health services or can be an independent drug services.
WHAT CAN A CLIENT EXPECT ONCE ADMITTED
On admission you will be asked to go through our admission procedure which consists of a contract and therapeutic agreement to check out and sign. Once you have agreed to commit to the program, a checklist of information (for example the fire drill, risk assessment, etc.) will be filled out and you will be shown to your room or given the grand tour if you have had a telephone assessment or indeed forgotten what we look like.
We will register you with a local G.P., dentist and asist you to fill out your benefit forms (if required).
You will be given a 'buddy' to offer extra support in your first two weeks or for as long as you require this support, alongside the support from the other group members and staff. We are structured, which can be unusual at first but it is in place to model the normal family routine and to bring normality back into one's life. For example attending group mirrors work by preparing for work(making sure clients have all relevant files etc when going into group) attending group (being on time, being engaged in the service) ending group (finishing work on time).
Group therapy happens twice a day with a variety of topics offered but always giving space for individuals to contribute their own topics or current difficulties from the past or present.
One to one sessions happen every week with a dedicated addiction worker and within these sessions you can discuss whatever you choose; information will be shared within the team but not with other group members. Homework may be given to you in these sessions and a homework check in session will also take place weekly.
Therapeutic duties are part of our program i.e. cleaning, washing up, laundry, cooking and gardening. This gives the individual the opportunity to take responsibility for their home as well as working in a team/group setting. It can develop new skills and refresh old ones to encourage self sufficiency on leaving. These are discussed and allocated in the weekly house meeting which is managed by the clients and happens evry Wednesday. In these groups they also discuss the weekend activities, visits, menus for the week, repairs and any other house issues.
Somewhere House encourage the social side of treatment but also recognise that it is very easy to become distracted outside of the house so all socialising is encouraged with other group members. Leaving the house generally happens in small groups, however this must be cleared by a staff member.
We do not encourage visits to licensed premises and gambling is not allowed. We are aware that some coffee bars are licensed but an alternative needs to be sought where possible.
